Can I Keep My Google Rankings If I Redesign My Wix Site?

Yes, you can keep your Google rankings when you redesign your Wix website, as long as you keep the same domain, keep your page URLs or redirect the ones that change, and carry over your page titles, descriptions and content. Most ranking drops after a redesign come from missing redirects or deleted content, not from the new design itself.

How to protect your rankings during a redesign

  • Keep your domain. Never launch the new site on a different domain unless you plan a full move with redirects.

  • Make a list of your current pages. Note which pages get the most visits in Google Search Console or Wix Analytics before you change anything.

  • Keep the same URLs where you can. If a URL has to change, add a 301 redirect in the Wix URL Redirect Manager so Google and visitors land on the new page.

  • Carry over your SEO settings. Copy each page's title, meta description and main heading, then improve them rather than starting from scratch.

  • Don't delete content that ranks. If a page brings in traffic, keep its content and make it better.

  • Check alt text and structured data. Add image alt text and business and FAQ structured data on the new pages.

What to do after launch

Submit your sitemap in Google Search Console, check for 404 errors, and watch your traffic and rankings for the next few weeks. Small dips can happen while Google re-crawls the site, and they usually recover when the redirects and content are in place.

How a redesign can improve your rankings

A redesign is a chance to fix what was holding you back: slow pages, thin service pages, missing local keywords and no FAQs. Done well, the new site ranks better than the old one and brings in more calls.

Quick answers

Will changing my Wix template hurt my SEO? Not on its own. Rankings depend on your content, URLs and SEO settings, not on the template.

How long does it take Google to update after a redesign? Usually a few days to a few weeks, depending on the size of the site and how often Google crawls it.
